Greenhouse Grown:
The B’gan Promise of Perfection
It began with the bugs
The world was moving away from using pesticides. Chemicals were identified as harmful to the produce and the environment. This presented a new problem to kosher consumers.
In theory, all vegetables are kosher. However, all vegetable-eating insects are not. The solution previously was to keep insects out in the first place through use of pesticides. Because pesticides weren’t being used as generously, kosher consumers needed to check produce more thoroughly yet were ill-equipped to do so. They didn’t know precisely what they were looking for. Additionally, many of the insects found in common produce are not visible to the human eye.
B’gan answered the call
We recognized the kosher consumer’s need to procure insect-free produce that meets the high standards of quality and kashrus. After much research and field study, we established that by growing vegetables in carefully-controlled greenhouses, insects in these greens would be eliminated entirely, thereby rendering the vegetables strictly kosher. Thus began our search for the ideal location for growing greenhouse produce. We scoured the world to find the best options for our innovation.
We chose Ecuador
With its steady climate conducive to optimal greenhouse produce growth, Ecuador is the ideal location to grow superior greenhouse-grown broccoli and cauliflower. Ecuador is located on the Equator, which means the weather is always warm and predictable. Because of this regularity, the insect population stays regulated and there are no waves of infestation. This ensures that our produce stays 100% insect-free.
Benefits of greenhouse produce
Controlled environment
Each greenhouse is approximately the size of a city block and is sealed from insect-infiltration by way of a two-stage entryway. This ensures double security against unwanted insects.
Optimal growing conditions
Greenhouses temperatures are perfectly controlled to encourage maximum growth, eliminating temperature fluctuations which stress plants and slow their growth. This allows for a consistent export of your favorite, flavorful vegetables year-round and is not limited by season.
Picked with care at its prime
Greenhouse-grown produce grows at the source until it reaches peak ripeness to yield bruise-free produce. It is then carefully picked with care.
Drip irrigation technology
Drip irrigation in greenhouses is of the most advanced methods in prodding soil to yield healthy crop. Tiny holes in the hoses release water at a slow drip, precisely targeting the plants’ root systems where the crop will best utilize the water. We continuously monitor the soil to determine the nutrients needed to fertilize the crops.
